The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women and represents a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women by bringing together governments, UN entities and NGOs from all regions of the world. This year, the priority of the 65th session of the CSW is placed on “Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”.
Together with our partners, PES Women will participate through a set of promising parallel events. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CSW65 will mostly take place in the virtual sphere, which means that wherever you are located, you can seize this opportunity to join us to exchange with feminist voices from all over the globe and be part of this highlight event in the international women’s rights agenda!

12 March – PES Women online reception (independent, closed event, registration with PES Women necessary)

Friday, 12 March, 19:00 – 20:00 (CET)

Traditionally hosted in New York, we do not want to miss this occasion to socialize and connect with fellow feminists who are interested in exchanging about their expectations and plans for the two-week long CSW event. Therefore, we would like to bring our PES Women Reception to the online sphere and take a moment to deepen our international feminist network. Building new alliances and to conversate in an informal setting with fellow advocates for gender equality and women’s rights is a big part of the UN gathering.

16 March - Fair Pay Political Round table Parallel Event

Tuesday, 16 March, 16-17:30 (CET)

In the context of the 65th session of the UN Commission of the Status of Women, PES Women teams up with the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), Jean-Jaurès Foundation and FPI - Fair Pay Innovation Lab in order to host the 2nd Fair Pay Political Roundtable. The Fair Pay Political Roundtable will address how to deal with legislations enshrining fair pay principles. Equal pay for equal work and work of equal value has been high on the international agenda and there is a variety of countries who are rapidly progressing in fair pay legislation. However, no country can report a wage gap of zero and the COVID-19 has worsened the economic situation of women. We want to assess how individuals use available laws to ensure fair pay for themselves, but also how governments implement collective solutions so that the burden is no longer placed on the individual’s shoulders.  Experts from policy-making, NGOs, and academia will exchange on legislative approaches across the world and evaluate these approaches in how far they are practically supporting citizens in overcoming the gender wage gap.

17 March - UN CSW65 Parallel Event

Wednesday, 17 March, 17h00-19h00 (CET)

Hosted by UN Women Germany, PES Women, the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) and Jean-Jaurès Foundation, this parallel event will discuss gender equality from a life-cycle and intersectional perspective. Under the slogan “From Beijing 1995 to Generation Equality 2021: Building gender just societies through intergenerational solidarity”, the aim of the debate will be to foster dialogue between women across generations and solidarity between feminists of all ages in an era where it is key to safeguard and strengthen the acquired rights - which are currently under threat. We would like this dialogue between feminist voices from diverse generations and backgrounds to contribute towards creating a new vision for the future and providing sustainable solutions to the current social, health and climate challenges.

18 March - UN CSW65 Parallel Event

Thursday, 18 March, 17h00-19h00 (CET)
