Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old student, died on September 16, 2022 after an altercation with Iran’s Morality Police for improper hijab. One year after her tragic death, the Wilson Center's Middle East Program will assess the impact of the protest movement—led largely by teenage girls and young women—that swept Iran and spilled over across the world.

Experts will explore the state of Iranian politics a year later, including the simmering internal flashpoints as well as the government’s response. They will also analyze Iran’s problems with the outside world, including the United States, on the eve of President Raisi’s trip to the U.S. for the U.N. General Assembly this month.
