In this session, IJNet's guest will look at how the impacts of climate change can contribute to conflict, and the specific factors that drive conflict. At the end of the session, you’ll hopefully be better equipped with practical tips on how to bring a climate-change lens to your conflict reporting and a conflict lens to your climate-change reporting. The trainer this week is Chitran Nagarajan who is an independent journalist, researcher and activist.

Nagarajan focuses on civilian protection, climate change, conflict analysis and sensitivity, peacebuilding, and human rights, particularly those of women and girls. She has worked across West Africa for over a decade, including examining climate security in the Lake Chad basin region and in Mali. She takes intersectional feminist approaches, integrating gender and social inclusion throughout all her work. Nagarajan co-edited “She Called Me Woman: Nigeria’s Queer Women Speak,” a collection of narratives published by Cassava Republic Press in 2018, and she is currently working on a book on the violence in the Lake Chad Basin.
