Project Summary:

The Youth Connect activity is one of several activities supporting USAID’s Bridge project, devoted to addressing the development challenges at the nexus of countering violent extremism and resilience. The goal of the activity is to equip vulnerable young women and men in Niger with technical and life skills, networks, and capital for increased strategic economic opportunities. This objective supports the overall Bridge project purpose, which is to address critical unmet needs that are the main drivers of violent extremist recruitment in the Sahel: poor governance, lack of economic opportunity, and perceived exclusion from the benefits and services provided and facilitated by governments in the region.

Position Summary:

The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Specialist will take a lead role in improving the quality and relevance of GESI activities related to activities in the Bridge Youth Connect activity.  The GESI Specialist will provide guidance on gender and social inclusion across project objectives and activities. S/he will be responsible for gender and social inclusion analysis as well as developing a robust gender strategy.

Reporting and Supervision:

This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Party.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop GESI specific recommendations tailored to Bridge Youth Connect objectives and activities;
  • Develop GESI strategy and identify activity level gender and inclusion related indicators;
  • Conduct staff and partner training sessions tailored to the local Bridge Youth Connect context, discussing how proposed interventions strengthen project objectives and results;
  • Identify and engage relevant local stakeholders to support GESI work and assist in socializing interventions;
  • Facilitate GESI analysis and maintains ongoing monitoring and evaluation of gender focused initiatives and activities; and
  • Ensure the project’s gender equality and social inclusion strategy is implemented in compliance with project work plan and client expectations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:.

  • At least a Masters’ degree in social studies, business, international development, or a related field (or, alternately, a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and five additional years of relevant experience);
  • At least five (5) years of technical experience in donor-funded gender programming;
  • Experience with women-focused entrepreneurship programming is highly desired; and
  • French and English fluency.
