Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights is a global women’s fund that protects, strengthens and sustains women and trans* human rights activists and the social movements they lead at critical moments.
UAF for Feminist Activism is expanding its programmatic work to reach a wider network of women and trans human rights defenders working on the intersection of climate & environmental justice. As part of this initiative, UAF is seeking a consultant to conduct researching and mapping of the current landscape of climate & environmental justice issues and its impact on the regions they cover. Their regions/countries include: United States, Canada, Central Asia, Balkans, South Caucasus, Russia, Turkey, Middle East, Eastern & Central Europe.
The consultant will assist in identifying women/GNC/trans-led grassroots organizations, networks, or coalitions working at the intersections of climate and/or environmental justice; map the strategic advocacy spaces to visibilize urgent climate & environmental justice issues; and support in the creation of funding framework centering women’s and trans’ leadership in the environmental and climate justice movements and women and trans frontline defenders.
The research methodology can include phone/video call interviews; desk research; and online surveys.
Main responsibilities:
Between July-October 2020, the consultant will:
- Conduct landscape analysis and map regional climate & environmental justice issues
- Identify key advocacy coalitions/spaces/messaging on climate justice
- Summarize findings
- Draft a summary report & presentation of the findings and recommendations for UAF
Knowledge, skill and abilities:
An ideal consultant has excellent research, analytical, creative communication and writing abilities; a deep understanding of feminisms, gender justice & indigenous rights; experience engaging with different stakeholders and to understand cultural differences.
Candidates with knowledge & understanding of climate and environmental justice rights and/or UAF regions is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written English skills are required. Ability to speak/understand Russian and/or Arabic a plus.
