Jordan: Consultant, GBV’s Engaging Men through Accountable Practice (EMAP) Training

Background to the Assignment

International Medical Corps (IMC) implements preventative and responsive GBV services including case management, empowerment activities, awareness sessions and skill buildings. Also an important element of the intervention will be behavioral change amongst men and boys though the implementation of ‘‘Engaging Men through Accountable Practice (EMAP)’ models, which were developed by International Rescue Committee (IRC) and have already been successfully used by IMC in other GBV programs in Middle East. In the first quarter of project implementation, IMC field staff will be trained on EMAP after contextualizing the EMAP model. Then community men and boys will be engaged through EMAP model for their effective and sustainable contribution towards greater objectives of the project interventions. To prepare the project team for the roll-out of the EMAP model, IMC will contextualize the training model already used in other Middle East contexts and conduct necessary trainings facilitated jointly by IMC staff and an external consultant.

Purpose of the Assignment

The consultant will have overall responsibility to train, monitor and support the IMC and its partner’s GBV staff and volunteers to successfully implement the Engaging Men through Accountable Practice (EMAP) Approach/Methodology to end violence against women and girls. The consultant will use the EMAP curriculum to deliver the training as well as support the adaptation of the curriculum with the participation of the GBV Technical Advisor, Protection Coordinator and GBV Manager to ensure appropriateness within the context. The consultant will also provide training of trainers (TOT) to selected IMC and its partner’s GBV staff who will be tasked with the responsibility of training EMAP group facilitators throughout the life of the project.

Scope of the Assignment

In close collaboration with IMC’s GBV Technical Advisor, and the country Protection Coordinator and GBV team, the consultant will:

  • Develop a clear work plan/strategy including the methodologies on how you intend to approach the training of IMC and its partner’s GBV staff on the Engaging Men through Accountable Practice (EMAP) Approach/Methodology.
  • Liaise with the Technical Advisor, Protection Coordinator and GBV Manager as necessary on adaptation of the curriculum and guide for the GBV team on the most effective ways to implement the curriculum.
  • Conduct EMAP training consisting of15 days to be facilitated for a period of four weeks for IMC and its partner’s GBV staff and the EMAP groups facilitators.
  • Support and provide guidance to IMC’s and partner’s staff attending the Training for Trainers on how to replicate the training to the field teams.
  • Present a draft training report within two weeks after the completion of the training exercise including recommendations for EMAP implementation in the field.
  • Submit a final report after incorporating the feedback from the IMC GBV country team and the GBV TU Advisor within one week of receiving feedback on the draft report
  • Provide samples of monitoring and assessment tools that will be adapted to fit into the context

Deliverables Description

  • Develop a work plan, strategy, methodologies to approach IMC and partners GBV staff

Implementation of the Assignment Deliverables

The trainer will provide EMAP training for IMC and its partners GBV staff for 15 days within a period of four weeks. There will also be a debrief of the training and a detailed training report provided.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or equivalent. 

Experience

  • Experience in implementing and facilitating EMAP and other GBV prevention curriculums is a MUST.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing gender and development or programs providing services to survivors of violence against women.

Competency

  • Demonstrated ability to engage men in ending violence against women and girls.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle resistance to gender transformation change.
  • The candidate must present sample of previous work done on training or adaptation of EMAP in a context similar to Middle East.
