Search for Common Ground is an international non-governmental organization that works to end violent conflict and build healthy, safe, and just societies. It is the largest such organization dedicated to peacebuilding, with offices in over 30 countries and a media reach of roughly 40 million people.

Background of the Assignment

Gender equality is central to Search’s work, a main pillar of programming and activities in major projects and programmes. Search places gender equality at the forefront of its peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts. Mainstreaming a gender perspective in our projects is a goal, and the objectives include: Reducing gender inequalities, and ensuring that women and men equally participate and benefit for the implemented activities and initiatives. Therefore, an initiative was taken at Search to develop a gender mainstreaming manual that is tailored for Search’s staff (and can even be used by partners and stakeholders). The manual consists of two parts: Part one is an introduction to the Common Ground Approach (CGA) to Gender which includes the main gender related concepts, terms and approaches used at Search. The second part is the: Operationalizing Gender at Search, which provides the practical steps to integrating gender perspective at each level of the project’s cycle. The manual is based on shared experiences and lessons learned from Search’s staff. We intend to use the Manual as a main source on how we mainstream gender in our work. Based on the Manual, we also intend to develop a training kit that showcases how to mainstream gender into our CGA.

Search For Common Ground is looking for an external consultant to further develop and lead the validation of the drafted Gender Mainstreaming Manual and develop a Common Ground Approach (CGA) to gender training manual. The Consultant will report to the global program quality specialist with direct support from the “Network of Practitioners in Gender Mainstreaming at Search.”
