The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS), launched in 2011 by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who serves as the Institute’s honorary founding chair, and Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia, examines and highlights the roles of women in fostering peace and security and growing economies worldwide.
Job Overview
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Policy Associate plays an integral coordinating role on GIWPS’ cross-functional Middle East and North Africa work and advancing the mission of centering Middle Eastern and North African women in all global policy and debates.
They serve as staff policy lead on Women, Peace and Security issues in the Middle East and North Africa, and track, analyze, and write on global policies and trends. As well, they utilize this expertise as the focal point for organizing and executing Middle East and North Africa-related programs and events, including liaising with Middle Eastern and North African women leaders and organization partners to ensure policy impact.
The MENA Policy Associate also represents the Institute externally, and manages administrative duties for the Middle East and North Africa portfolio.
Work Interactions
The MENA Policy Associate serves an essential role on the Policy and Advocacy team by providing consistent policy expertise that improves the impact potential of all GIWPS activities in the Middle East and North Africa, whether it is a research project or communications activity.
They play the key role in ensuring GIWPS delivers impactful programs and ensures accountability for all grants and related support; and serves as the lead organizer for all Middle East and North Africa events.
Reporting directly to the Director of Programming and Events, the MENA Policy Associate collaborates with the Director of Communications, the Policy & Programs Manager, the Managing Director, and the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- 1 to 2 years of experience working on issues of peace and human rights in the Middle East and North Africa, policy analysis, communications, writing and organizing convenings
