In Paraguay, where agriculture represents over 25% of the GDP, a groundbreaking initiative called “Women to the Field” is challenging traditional gender roles in farming and livestock sectors. Led by veterinarian Luján Servín, this digital platform empowers women to take leadership roles in an industry historically dominated by men in South America. What began as a blog in 2019 has evolved into a comprehensive social media movement, creating Paraguay’s first digital community focused on women in agriculture. Servín, recognizing the unique challenges faced by women in Latin American farming communities, emphasizes that while Paraguay possesses rich agricultural resources, cultural barriers often limit women’s participation in the sector.Through strategic use of Instagram and web-based platforms, the initiative showcases success stories of women who have broken barriers in Paraguay’s agricultural industry. These range from small-scale farmers to agricultural engineers and agribusiness entrepreneurs, providing role models for younger generations considering careers in agriculture.
