The Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM) is the competence centre for global labour mobility in the international cooperation activities of the German Government. CIM taps the potential that global migration offers for sustainable development.

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) requires your expertise in order to conduct research to understand the consequences and impact of the outmigration of men and women from rice-growing areas in Asia and Africa. The institute is seeking to systematically incorporate this transformation and gender-specific consequences into design and implementation of its research for development projects. The aim is to translate research findings more effectively into practice with a view to improving food security. IRRI is a founding member of the CGIAR consortium and is considered one of the most prestigious institutions in international agricultural research as a result of many years of experience in application-oriented and poverty-oriented research.

Your tasks will involve:

• Conceptualising, developing and implementing research projects on gender-specific and demographic processes in rice agri-food systems
• Lead in integrating gender indicators in monitoring and evaluation frameworks, methods, and tools to track and evaluate changes in women’s empowerment and gender equity
• Strengthen the technical capacity of IRRI and its partners to use advanced tools and methods for gender research.
• Publish research results in high quality disciplinary and interdisciplinary journals
• Contribute to development of communication products and positioning papers to disseminate research findings to all relevant target groups, including farmers, the public sector and international partners

Your profile:

• University degree and preferably a PhD in social sciences or any related discipline with a focus on gender
• Several years of professional experience with planning and implementing research projects in this field
• Ideally, experience working with small-scale farming communities in the partner countries of development cooperation
• Readiness to undertake regular travel commitments
• Business fluency in English
• In addition you have the citizenship of an EU member state for reasons to meet the criteria of the Integrated Experts program
