The NGO Committee on the Status of Women, New York, is a non-profit corporation working to advance the human rights of women and girls worldwide to bring together globally non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and individuals to work in partnership with the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and UN Women in a shared goal to create a world where no one is left behind. Their membership of about 400 individuals representing more than 100 international NGOs advocates for a wide variety of issues concerning gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The Committee sponsors an international Consultation Day each year, prior to the meetings of the Commission on the Status of Women, organizes the NGO CSW Forum of over 400 events and offers advocacy training for NGO representatives who come to New York to attend meetings of the Commission and supports regional advocacy trainings by our sister NGOCSWs. Other Committee activities include monthly meetings and discussions on issues facing the UN and its specialized agencies that affect the status of women. We keep members updated on the latest events through our listserv mailings and resources posted on line. A volunteer-based non-profit (501(c)3) organization, funded largely by individual contributions, NGO CSW/NY is affiliated with the Conference of NGOs (CoNGO) in Consultative Relationship with the UN.

The NGO Committee on the Status of Women, New York is looking for a full-time Gender Program Coordinator and Office Manager who will be responsible for the overall management of office operations, supervise a cadre of interns and oversee the programmatic areas as directed by the Chair and Executive Committee. The incumbent will serve as a representative to NGO Committees and/or Major Groups or Other Stakeholder Groups of the NGO Community at the UN. The successful candidate will be an advocate and champion for the advancement of Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals and the upcoming Beijing+25 global campaign.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Office Coordination

  • Maintain efficient office services
  • Lead operations coordination for NGO CSW Forum
  • Oversee work assignments of part-time employees/consultants
  • Take direction from Chair and Executive Committee
  • Work closely with Treasurer in financial management
  • Schedule rooms and send out notices for meetings
  • Coordinate public relations functions including website and social media working in close collaboration with IT support.

Supervision of Interns

  • Recruit, train and supervise interns
  • Organize interns’ assignments/schedules (programmatic and clerical assignments)
  • Assign interns to attend UN events, meetings with UN officials and mission visits
  • Plan work assignments during the internship and during two weeks of CSW

Program Management

  • Serve as a representative of NGO CSW/NY to an NGO Committee and/or Major Groups, as determined by Chair
  • Keep abreast of the 2030 Development Agenda and other relevant processes related to programmatic assignments
  • Review and analyze special reports; identify trends
  • Attend meetings with Member States and UN entities

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • BA/BS or equivalent work experience; MA preferred
  • Non-profit experience preferred
  • Computer literacy
  • Proficiency with social media platforms; develop media relationships
  • Knowledge of CRM (NEON), Paypal, and Quickbooks a plus
  • Background in international relations, gender equality and/or women’s human rights a plus
  • Experience with the United Nations and international relations a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to set clear priorities, delegate and achieve consensus among differing opinions
  • Able to work occasional evenings during the year and evenings and weekends during the two weeks of the Commission on the Status of Women in March
  • Ability to listen and work well with others
