Myanmar: Government to Return Land to Farmers

Dr Soe Than, regional minister for agriculture, livestock and irrigation, said: “We’re assessing the land. It shouldn’t take long. Within this year we will be able to give back the land to the owners.” The government, military and private companies acquired the land for various purposes. Some companies purchased many acres for farming but they reportedly cut down trees in the areas, traded timber and neglected farming.
